Garuko's Pet Portrait

8" x 8" oil on canvas

Reference Photo

Here's a commission of Garuko. I added her tail :-).

I painted Nekosan below for this client many years ago so I was glad to be able to paint Garuko as well.

High Hill Hopes

18" x 24"
Oil on Canvas

I’m discovering new and beautiful places in my home state of Mississippi that I haven’t seen before and this is one of them. This is a painting of the open pastureland behind Carr Church in Lake, MS. I used my creative license and added some cows..ha! There is another church called High Hill Church is located just north of this one with a spectacular Western view. This area must be one of the highest elevations in the state.

Before my dad passed, mom, dad and I would take mini road trips. We loved driving to see interesting places like this and eating good food. If you ever find yourself in Forest Mississippi off I-20 you must stop at the Garden Patch restaurant. It is a hole in the wall but those southern ladies make the best-fried chicken I’ve ever tasted.

Impending Storm

Impending Storm
18" x 18"
Oil on Canvas
The location is south of I-20 in Forest, MS - near Conehatta, MS where my grandparents owned a small farm. My cousins and I spent time there during our summers.

I've been thinking a lot about what my dad is going through with his cancer and the fact that my uncle just died on the 14th. It is true that life isn't the way that generation remembers it. It seems like there is a lot of talk about death and dying but also reminiscing about good times. In the past month, we've seen 3 of my parents' friends die. This painting sets the mood.....like there is a storm coming and maybe it's here.

As I say this and paint this picture I know without a doubt that we are so blessed to have the Lord. He is our strength and our song though sadness and trials. Jesus is our true comforter. 🙏
